3D Printing events in Budapest

It has been a really busy week last week from a 3d printers point of view, many different great events have been organized in the last couple of days in the heart of the Hungarian capital. GigamaX 3D printing technology and parametric | art 3d print and design have participated as speakers, exhibitor, trainee and partner as well.

The 3d printing landscape is constantly shifting: huge advances and smaller incremental innovations mean that keeping up-to-date with what’s new across the 3d printing industry is though – that’s why a lot of 3d printing related events have been organized in Hungary nowadays. Of you want to buy a 3d printer, you’ll need a lot of information before purchasing a new machine, whether that’s a desktop machine or a true production machine. The number of desktop 3d printer models and plastic extrusion systems or 3d printer head movements have increased year-by-year and manufacturers and start-ups surge into new niche areas and continued competition leads into entirely new fields of 3d printing.

The first 3d printing highlight of October was a mini-conference organized by Varinex and Design Terminal with more than hundred registered guests. At the Design Terminal HQ, visitors could learn about the useful application of 3d printing in design and archeology. The short presentations have showcased the applications of 3d printed objects in the medical industry, jewelry, architecture and generative design. During the coffee-breaks, guests could see the desktop 3d printers in action and monitor the real-world output. Only a costumer armed with up-to-date facts and figures, can make the right decision when it is about buying an affordable desktop 3d printer.

At GigamaX3D, we think that you deserve the freedom to get the job done with accessible technology. That’s why our robust K8200 3D printers take full advantage of Open Source Hardware and Software, allowing users like students to take control of the printing experience down to the finest details within a large 20 x 20 x 20 cm area of 3d printable space. It means that you can 3d print with large scale and you also have a big variety on 3d printing materials like PLA, ABS, HIPS, conductive, luminuous, flexible filaments, experimental 3d printer materials like timberfill and laybrick, and heavy duty plastics like PET and Polycarbonate (PC).

That’s what we wanted to present at the Szolnoki Gazdasági Fórum, which is a regional manufacturer conference for the Hungarian automotive industry. We have showcased some desktop 3d printers producing functional plastic parts from ABS filaments, in this case a Leapfrog Creatr Dual 3d printer and small RepRap Huxey open-source machine ruled the stand. The Leapfrog Creatr 3d printer is known as the ‘fastest’ ‘most accurate’ and ‘biggest’ desktop 3d printer. It fits to GigamaX’s open-source philosophy which ranges from the open-build hardware construction and the open-source 3d printer firmware. These 3d printers are really made from premium metal parts and strong materials. It has a huge heated bed, which also prevents warping.

The biggest and most significant event of the last week was absolutely the Innotrends conference in Budapest. It has been organized by the National Innovation Office of Hungary. One of the main objectives of the National Innovation Office is to stimulate the domestic research, development and innovation in the national economy, to support the development of the domestic stat-up ecosystem, and to promote the networking of the business sector. To reach these goals the National Innovation Office has organised for the second time the Innotrends Hungary 2014 international conference and exhibition between the 16th and 17th of October, 2014. This year, we have been there with GigamaX 3D Print at Innotrends 2014.

According to the conferences, Design Terminal organized a generative 3d modeling for 3 printing workshop as a strategic partner of the Innotrends event. During the 3hours participants have seen some easy-to-use generative design tools like Grasshopper or Meshlab. Some creatures will be 3d printed by GigamaX3D in the next couple of days. GigamaX3D and parametric | art already has delivered a lot of workshops to hundreds of people across a variety of many different sectors. Manufacturers and engineers, such as those involved with injection moulding or metal casting and machining, designers, architects and sculptors as end-users from aerospace, defence, automotive and medical sectors, as well as the creative industry have benefitted. The workshops organized by Copy Depo at GigamaX3D HQ in Budapest have helped businesses and inventors to utilize the technology for an unbelievable wide range of applications, including the making of bespoke, individual implants for the digital dentistry or 3d surgery, and the production of low-volume, high-value components for defence.

GigamaX3D and parametric | art has got the possibility among 18 other Hungarian Startups to present themselves with their existing and visible prototypes for free.

The exhibition has been an excellent opportunity for Hungarian startup companies to showcase their innovative products and creative services in front of an audience, which is highly interested in research, development and innovation. The event provides the exhibitors with the opportunity to build professional relationships, to meet the credit market and venture capital investors, and they will be informed first hand – as a courtesy of the conference – of the current direction of the domestic and European innovation trends.

The stands have stuffed with experts, the different stages hosted some of thought-leaders of the tech industry and – perhaps equally as importantly – the 3d printer user community has been in the same place at the same time. We met a lot of friends during the exhibition, some of them use our machines or special 3d printing materials like conductive ABS filament or flexible plastics for 3d printing. We also set up a small 3d scanner to show the audience how simple is to create a 3d model of s physical object which can be reproduced this way using an affordable and open-source desktop 3d printer.

10302034_330024173814353_3776776068490786881_nWe also presented our brand new website called Objectshop, which is going to be launched in a couple of weeks. It will be some kind of mixture of Thingiverse and 3DHubs. The basic idea behind the concept is fairly simple – to connect the global 3d designer community to the local 3d printer community – that’s what we’d like to reach with the new 3d website. Designer can upload their designs or design some unique stuff for special request, while 3d printer guys can earn some money with 3d printing for others. Those, who do not own a desktop 3d printer and cannot 3d model their own .stl files for 3d printing, they can browse the unique 3d model library curated by recognized designers or ask a designer to create something awesome for them. With the .stl file prepared for 3d printing, they can ask somebody in the neighborhood with a 3d printer to realize their 3d objects and they easily can pick up the piece or they also can be shipped by mail. So the simplest explanation what Objectshop for the 3d designer community does: you list your services for who need 3d design for 3d printing services. For 3d printer: you list your printer for those who need a local 3d printer. For everybody: you want something globally, you will get it 3d print locally;)

We have made some really nice relationships, and also got into the Hungarian start-up scene which is totally inspirational and fizzy. During the demo, we have 3d printed some figurines for our neighbor exhibitors for their table game project, and also made some 3d printed prototype parts for an innovative wifi-connected smart-shower which works using only 5 l of water for a single shower. Just look at the pictures!
